hi! i’m wan ting, your professional wingwoman.
I work with accomplished and capable men who are doing well for themselves, but can’t quite seem to crack this dating thing. You’re getting out there, you have friends, you can hold a conversation, but there’s nothing obviously “wrong”.
I spent eight years in HR and recruitment in a huge MNC in the Oil & Gas industry, interviewing people, assessing them, and asking lots of questions.
Then I trained (and got certified) in personal colour and image consulting, and started working with people on how they looked and presented themselves.
Then I trained as a coach, and learnt the importance of the growth mindset by Dr Carol Dweck, which taught me that your goals are achieved through persistence, and that greater successes come to those who put in the effort, not to the naturally-talented.
I realised that these three things worked surprisingly well together, which led to how I see dating: as something you can get better at.
i didn’t start out as a dating coach.
the portmanteau process: easy as ABC
❋
appearance
How you present yourself and come across - in dressing, grooming and even online. What does someone actually experience when they meet you online or irl?
❋
beliefs
What you believe about yourself, women and relationships. Some of these beliefs / assumptions may be helping you; some may be making dating considerably harder than it needs to be.
❋
communication
How you connect with another person, express interest, boundaries, curiosity and intention. Not scripts or tricks or manosphere dating “advice” around here.
❋
(i also think we’re strangely fatalistic about dating.)
At work, you practise presentations. At the gym, you train. If you can’t beat a game, you keep playing and watch YouTubers and learn how they solve that level.
But when dating isn’t going the way we want, we jump straight to:
I’m too short.
I’m not handsome like Henry Cavill.
I’m not as rich as my friend.
Women have too many options.
Some of these may be true, sure - but what about the things you can actually change?

what you won’t get from me
pickup lines
“here’s what all women want”
tricks to manufacture attraction
a promise that six sessions will get you a girlfriend
Unlike Whitney Houston, I’m not every woman, so I don’t speak for all women and I can’t control whether somebody likes you.
What I can and will do is give you an informed outside perspective, spot patterns, practise with you and get you working on the things that are actually yours to change.
finally…what’s a
portmanteau?
A portmanteau is a word formed by blending two distinct words together. It carries the meanings of both words, yet has its own unique meaning - like brunch (breakfast + lunch), or spork (spoon + fork).
You’re probably here because you’re looking for your own portmanteau. You’re a whole, complete individual looking for your partner - not an incomplete half looking for someone to make you whole.
portmanteau exists for men who want to take ownership of their dating lives, and who stop wasting time guessing what’s going on - so that they can find the woman of their dreams. If that’s you, you’re in the right place.
dating doesn’t have to be confusing.
Let’s stop asking Chat to make your Hinge prompts sound “more interesting but not arrogant”.
You don’t need to diagnose yourself.
Just tell me what’s been happening - I’ll tell you what I notice, and where I‘d start.
